In order for your child and all of the students in our classroom to have the excellent learning environment they deserve, I will be using the following classroom management plan. The goal of my plan to develop the characteristics of self-discipline, responsibility, cooperation, and problem solving skills. We will begin to learn our classroom rules on the first day of school!
Our Classroom Rules
Listen when someone is speaking.
Raise your hand to speak.
Follow directions quickly.
Be a caring friend.
Always do your best!
Behavior Chart
We will have a chart in our classroom with the following listed:
Brilliant behavior
Excellent example!
Way to go!
Ready to learn!
Think about it…
Teacher’s choice..
Contact home!
Each student will have a behavior bird that will start on Ready to Learn! at the beginning of each school day. When students are doing a great job, being exceptionally nice to friends, or displaying positive behavior that goes above and beyond they will have the opportunity to move up to Way to Go!, Excellent Example! or Brilliant Behavior!. Students will earn stickers, stamps, or a piece of candy from the candy jar for moving up to one of those at the end of the school day. When students are not following classroom rules, they will first be given a warning. We will discuss the behavior and how we can get back on track to earn a good day. For a second offense, the student will move their behavior bird to Think about it... and will not receive their sticker on their Behavior Chart for that day. They will also lose some time during free centers (blocks, house, art, etc.). For a third offense, the student will move their behavior bird to Contact Home! and will receive a time out along with a loss of time from free centers. I will also email you or send a note home explaining why the student moved their bird so we may work together to correct the behavior. If the behavior still occurs after the student's bird is on Contact Home!, then the student will be sent to the office.
Your child will receive a sticker on their Behavior Chart if they had a great day. If they did not have a good day, they will not receive a sticker and I will write a quick note explaining why. Sometimes all it takes is a little practice and a small talk for students to get the hang of our class rules. However, if the behavior persists then I will email you so you may know what is going on in more detail. This form of communication will allow us to work together to handle the behavior and get your child back on track! Each day please initial your child’s Behavior Chart and return it to school daily. If your child has all stickers at the end of the week, then they will visit the treasure box on Friday!
In addition to the Behavior Chart, we will have an incentive for total class behavior (walking in the hall, using the bathroom quietly, playing nicely on the playground). Our class can earn "fuzzies" for these behaviors. We have a a jar in our room for these. When the jar is full, we will have a celebration!
If you have any questions regarding the above, please do not hesitate to contact me!
Sincerely,
Allie Wenger
